Abstract On-road vehicular emissions contribute to the formation of fine particulate matter and ozone which can lead increased adverse health outcomes near emission source downwind. In this study, we present a transportation-specific modeling platform utilizing community multiscale air quality model (CMAQ) with decoupled direct method (DDM) estimate impacts on-road from five vehicles classes; light-duty autos, trucks (LDT), medium-duty trucks, heavy-duty (HDT), buses (BUS), on PM 2.5 O 3 concentrations at 12 × kilometer scale for states Washington D.C. as well four large metropolitan statistical areas in Northeast Mid-Atlantic U.S. 2016. CMAQ-DDM allows quantification sensitivities individual precursor (NO X , SO 2 NH volatile organic compounds, ) each state pollution levels effects downwind states. region considered, LDT are responsible most -attributable premature mortalities 1234 46% 26% those directly emitted primary respectively; 1129 80% NO emissions.
